Installing phpBB Styles

Your phpBB forum can be customized by changing layouts, color and image schemes, and configuration files. Layouts are changed with HTML files called templates. Color styles and images, as well as CSS files and other media, are modified with "Theme assets". To install or modify your theme or style, you will need to download a package from the internet, make any modifications you desire, and then use FTP or the File Manager in cPanel to place the files in the correct directory locations.

Template directory:

phpBB/styles/stylename/template/

Theme assets directory:

phpBB/styles/stylename/theme/

Config file location:
phpBB/styles/stylename/style.cfg

Where To Find Styles

We recommend that you only obtain your styles from the phpBB database. These styles have been vetted and are safe to use. Styles obtained from un-verified sources could contain malicious programs, and therefore pose a security risk. Use un-verified styles at your own risk!
Once you've found a style that you like, download and unzip the files (if necessary) on your computer.

Uploading And Installing The Style
  1. When logged in to cPanel, click on "File Manager".
  2. In the File Manager popup window, click "Go".
  3. Navigate to the "styles" directory within the phpBB main directory. If you are in the domain root, you should see the folder labeled "phpBB". Doubleclick it.  Find the "styles" folder in the phpBB directory, and doubleclick that.
  4. Click "Upload" in the top toolbar. Then, click "Choose File" when the upload page appears.
  5. Find and select the unzipped style folder you downloaded from the phpBB Customization Database.  Click "Open".

Once you have uploaded the style, you will need to log in to the phpBB administrative control panel to install the style.

  1. At the bottom of your phpBB forum, click "Administration Control Panel". You will need to enter your administrative username and password even if you are already logged in.
  2. Click the tab marked "Customize" along the top of the page. This will open the "Extensions Manager".
  3. Click "Install Styles" on the left hand side under Style Management.
  4. Select your newly uploaded style.
