What Are Log Files?

Log files are records of activity. They can be very useful for troubleshooting as well as site usage and activity analysis.

  • Apache Error Logs

These logs are useful when troubleshooting scripting errors, 500 errors, 403 errors, and missing pages.

  • FTP

FTP logs show activities performed over FTP connections. These logs are mostly useful for finding out what users have done in the file system.

  • Email

These logs track incoming and outgoing mail. This type of log is used for identifying spammers, whether or not mail was sent, and other email related questions.

  • Access Logs

This is a list of your site's visitors.
