iPhone Email Setup

iPhone Email Setup

We recommend using SSL. To use SSL, you will need to log in to cPanel to get the incoming and outgoing server names and ports.

  1. Log in to cPanel.
  2. Find the Email section, and click on "Accounts".
  3. Find the email address you wish to configure your email client for. To the right of the email address, click "CONNECT DEVICES".
  4. Scroll down to "Secure SSL/TLS Settings (Recommended)".

The highlighted section labeled "Secure SSL/TLS Settings" contains your incoming server name and the correct port for either IMAP or POP3, as well as the outgoing server and the appropriate SMTP port.

For Newer iPhones

  1. Tap "Settings"
  2. Tap "Mail, Contacts, Calendars"
  3. Tap "Add Mail Account"
  4. Fill in the name, full email address, and password.
  5. Choose "IMAP".
  6. "Incoming Mail Server": Use the "incoming server" name shown to you in cPanel from the first section of this guide, username set to your full email address, and enter your password.
  7. "Outgoing Mail Server": Use the "outgoing server" name shown to you in cPanel from the first section of this guide, username set to your full email address, and enter your password.
  8. Once the account is saved, you will need to enable SSL. Tap "Settings" in the Home screen.
  9. Touch "Mail, Contacts, Calendars" and select the account you have just set up.
  10. Touch "Advanced".
  11. In the "Incoming Settings" menu, slide "Use SSL" to "On".
  12. Select "Server Port", and change the port number to 993.
  13. Touch "Save".

For Older iPhones

The settings are similar but the important difference is that you must replace "mail.yourdomain.com" for the incoming and outgoing mail servers with "yourservername.nixihost.com". This article can help you with finding your server's name.

Common Issues

What is the IMAP path prefix?

The correct code is "INBOX"

Can't Delete Email

iOS tries to delete IMAP email by putting it in your phone's trash. This causes an error. To fix this error,
  1. Tap "Settings", then "Mail, Contacts and Calendars", then your email account, then "Advanced"
  2. Tap "Deleted Mailbox".
  3. Under the "On Server" section, choose the "Trash" box under the server.
Too Many Connections, 500 Errors

When "push" is enabled on the iPhone, it tried to keep the connection to the server alive all the time. This results in too many IMAP processes being created, which will cause undue server load. Therefore, we recommend that you disable push.
  1. Tap "Settings", "Mail, Contacts, Calendars", and then "Fetch New Data". Toggle "Push" to "Off".
