Creating and Deleting Subdomains

Rather than registering a new domain and adding it as an addon domain to your cPanel account, you can create a subdomain on a domain you own.

Rather than creating a new domain, a subdomain is essentially a prefix on an existing domain. For example, if you already own and host http://www.domain.com/, and wish to add the subdomain "subdomain", it would look as follows: http://subdomain.domain.com/ . This is common, for example, with blogs and forums (e.g., http://blog.domain.com/, or http://forums.domain.com/).

Creating a Subdomain

  1. Log in to cPanel.
  2. Under the "Domains" section, select "Subdomains".
  3. Select the domain you wish to use from the drop-down menu.
  4. In the blank field in front of the domain name, enter the subdomain name you have chosen.
  5. Click in the "Document Root" area and it will auto-fill for you.
  6. Click "Create".

Deleting a Subdomain

  1. Log in to cPanel
  2. Under the "Domains" section, select "Subdomains".
  3. Find the subdomain you wish to delete under "Modify a Subdomain".
  4. Click "Remove".
