Traceroute, Whois, Ping, Dig

You can run all of these commands from your browser using the website nwtools.com. Some Chrome users cannot load the website, so if it isn't loading for you try it in another browser, like Firefox. When you load the website, choose "Express", then enter the domain or IP address of your server and hit "Go".


Running Traceroute & Ping From Your Desktop

Windows

You can open the command prompt in earlier versions of Windows by clicking the Start button, then "Run", and typing in "cmd" and hitting Enter. In Windows 8, click the start button, then start typing "command prompt" and click it when it appears.

  • ping -From the command prompt, enter "ping yourdomain.com" where yourdomain.com is replaced by your actual domain name.
  • traceroute -From the command prompt, enter "traceroute yourdomain.com" where yourdomain.com is replaced by your actual domain name.

Mac

You can open the "Network Utility" on your Mac by navigating to Applications, then Utilities.

  1. Select the "Ping" or "Traceroute" tab.
  2. Enter the hostname, domain name, or IP address of your server.
  3. Click "Ping" or "Trace".
