Mail Exchangers: Local, Backup, and Remote

Mail Exchangers: Local, Backup, and Remote

It is suggested that you use cPanel's automatic configuration detection, but you may need to change the default settings.

These options can be found in cPanel. Click the "MX Entry" icon.

  • Local Mail Exchanger: Use if the highest priority MX record is pointing to an IP on this server.
  • Remote Mail Exchanger: Use if there are no MX records pointing to an IP on your server.
  • Backup Mail Exchanger: Does not work with shared servers. If you have a dedicated server, you can use this option if a lesser priority MX record points to this server. This server will become your backup mail server.
