Managing DNS Zones

DNS Zones can be managed in the "DNS Functions" option in WHM. This is for advanced users; if you are not comfortable doing this please submit a ticket.

How DNS Zones Work

The name server's purpose is to find the server and the correct DNS zone to obtain specific information:

• A Record: This directs your domain (or subdomain, or addon domain) to an IP address.
• CNAME Record: This directs your domain to another domain name. (like www.domain.com being directed to domain.com)
• MX Records: These control where emails are received.
• NS Records: These must match the name servers you're using.

How to Change the NS Records When Using Private Name Servers

This is only available to reseller and dedicated accounts, and only applicable when you are using private name servers.

1. In WHM, expand the "DNS Functions"
2. Select "Edit DNS Zone"
3. Choose your domain name, select the "Edit" button.
4. To the right of SOA, replace the name server with your primary private name server. Make sure to include the trailing dot for ns1.
5. To the right of NS, replace each name server with your private name servers. Make sure to include the trailing dot for ns1.
6. Click "Save".

How to Change MX Records

To do this you will need to have your domain on a special remote server list.

1. In WHM, expant "DNS Functions".
2. Select "Edit MX Entry".
3. Pick the domain name you would like to modify, click "Edit".
4. Choose one of the following: "Local", "Backup", or "Remote Mail Exchangers".  If you're unsure about this, select "Automatically Detect Configuration" and then then "Change" button.
5. Click "Save".
